Once the Home of Alfred Lord Tennyson, the Farringford is now a beautifully apportioned Country Style Hotel situated in 33 acres of mature parkland. It was the view from the Drawing Room across the Downs that made Tennyson write, “We go no further this is our home. ” and so it was for almost 40 years.
Surrounded by 1,000 acres of National Trust Downland making the Hotel ideal for every type of outdoor activity. Within the grounds there is a Par 3 Nine-Hole Golf Course, together with a nine-hole putting course for less experienced golfing enthusiast, heated outdoor pool, hard tennis court, croquet lawn, bowling green and poolside Bistro and Bar.
The accommodation incorporates eighteen en-suite Hotel rooms including our five premier Tennyson rooms and within the grounds there are some 29 cottages each with two separate bedrooms. Offering single occupancy accommodation therefore for some 93 guests. Numbers can be increased be using the double sofa beds in the lounges in each cottage or adding dual occupancy in twins. This takes number into the region of 130.
Farringford is open all year round and offering all conferences facilities one would expect but in the comfort of the peaceful and beautiful surrounding of West Wight, a designate Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Exclusive use of golf course can be offered and we work closely with two outdoor activity companies on the Island.
Conference rooms include the Downs room for theatre style seating up to 120, the Tennyson drawing room up to 45 and the Tennyson Study to 30. Each room can then be adapted to take boardroom and classroom style of seating as required. Breakout rooms in the main house are also available for syndicates of 2-30.
Our restaurant is famed for its culinary delights recently having been awarded the AA Rosette for Outstanding Cuisine and Service. We offer a full range of dining facilities to include light lunches, buffets, evening meal and gourmet tasting menus of up to nine courses.
This year we are proud to have been chosen above all other Island and South Coast Venues, to host the “Ellen McArthur Returns” private evening for some 156 guests.
