Training Access Point (TAP):
These courses are designed for organisations that aren’t able to book our standard courses due to staffing or budget restrictions. TAP events are held throughout the country at our regional offices, the structure and content of the course is the same as our standard courses.
An important aspect of our training is that it is delivered by Deaf Trainers, who are all experienced BSL users who can provide personal examples of the issues deaf and hard of hearing people can encounter using public services and offer solutions that are both simple and effective.
Start to Sign:
This is an introductory course to using BSL (British Sign Language).
The course aims to improve communication between deaf and hearing staff; and with deaf/hard of hearing customers. The course is taught by trainers who are themselves deaf and experienced BSL users.
By the end of the course attendees should be able to understand:
- the structure of BSL
- use basic everyday signs
- hold a basic dialogue in BSL without relying on writing or an interpreter
- be able to produce and understand the BSL alphabet.
Deaf Awareness Training:
The sessions cover general issues around deafness, with a focus on the barriers and solutions in communicating with Deaf and hard of hearing people. To give you an idea of the course content, the following provides an example of the issues covered during Deaf Awareness Training:
What the training packages include:

- Identifying the problems people whoare deaf or hard of hearing face can face when dealing with organisations
