Apply online for Lottery Grants

This year’s People’s Millions sees the launch of the Big Lottery Fund’s first ever online application form, revolutionising the application process and making it easier for groups to apply.

For the first time, community groups seeking to take part in the People’s Millions competition have the luxury of being able to complete the application process* directly from their PCs.

Groups can now log onto the Big Lottery Fund’s People’s Millions website www.thepeoplesmillions.org.uk to submit their project information, following a simple and secure step-by-step application process.

Forms can be saved at any step, allowing applicants to comeback and complete their application at a later time and information can also be validated for inaccuracies before final submission.

Online forms are sent directly to BIG, speeding up the application process and cutting the time taken to transfer paper applications onto computer systems.

Time will also be saved for both BIG and applicants, as groups will not be able to submit applications with missing details, reducing the need to return incomplete forms.

*Applicants will still need to forward signature pages and, if appropriate, any governing documents.

Stephen Dunmore, Chief Executive of the BIG Lottery Fund, said:

“By introducing an online application form for this year’s People’s Millions we are hoping to encourage even more community groups to rise to the challenge and take part in the competition.

Not only is the system easier and more convenient to use, it also speeds up the time it takes to process applications.

This is the only BIG programme where people can apply online, but in the future we are looking to roll out online application forms for a selection of other programmes, which will revolutionise the way people apply for grants from BIG.”

Full support will be available for anyone experiencing difficulties with completing the form by calling their help line on 08454 10 20 30.

People’s Millions application packs are also available by calling the hotline on 08450 10 11 12.

Groups interested in taking part in this year’s People’s Millions have until noon, Thursday 17 May 2007 to submit their applications.

The projects that reach the televised final, face a public vote from 26 to 30 November when ITV regional viewers choose local projects they would like to bring to life with 90 awards of up to £80,000 in Lottery cash.

This year’s competition sees a total of £7.8 million up for grabs for community groups across the UK.

Since the launch of People’s Millions in 2005, a total of £7.2 million has been won by 139 local community projects across the UK.

Previous winners have been using awards to make local communities a better place to live and money has been spent on a range of projects; from transforming former mining sites into community wildlife havens to creating sensory play areas for children with special needs.
