Why Cyprus?
Cyprus enjoys a warm climate throughout the year, and its people are well disposed towards the British, as a result of long-standing good relations between the two nations. Attractive taxation laws make it particularly appealing to retirees.
Cyprus, a land of many contrasts, a treasure house of legend and history, situated at the crossroads of three continents, boats the warmest and sunniest climate in the Eastern Mediterranean. A tradition for hospitality and friendliness, where English is widely spoken and with British influence still evident, Cyprus is the natural choice for holidays or blissful retirement.
The scenic beauty, the pleasant climate, its friendly people and rich cultural heritage evidenced by its ancient monuments and historic buildings have enchanted many a visitors to this paradise of an island.
The island’s accession to the EU in 2004 has resulted in improved infrastructure, communications and facilities, particularly in the medical and educational sectors. Property prices have risen by as much as 80 per cent over the past five years, but still represent good value in comparison with other, more established markets, such as Portugal, Spain and Italy.
Paphos
The town of Paphos is situated on the western coast of Cyprus and has a history going back over 2,300 years. It was the capital of Cyprus in roman times while today it is a popular holiday resort with a picturesque fishing harbour and a medieval castle.
History and legend have left their mark on Paphos. Is the legendary birth-place of Aphrodite (Venus) Goddess of love and beauty.
Paphos is an archaeological treasure trove, being home to several tombs of ancient kings and a number of important mosaics from Ancient Greek times. Within a short distance visitors can marvel at the famous Tombs of the Kings, the rare mosaics at the Villa of Dionysos, the Roman Amphitheatre and many more.
Secluded sandy beaches, banana plantations and green hills covered with wild flowers are part of the unspoilt natural environment of Paphos. The tavernas and sea food restaurants, the discos and bouzouki night clubs are part of the exciting night life of Paphos. Horse riding, wind surfing, diving and swimming are some of the local sports available to the energetic visitors.
Paphos has its own International Airport and is only four hours from Heathrow.
Contemporary life revolves around a bustling restaurant and beach scene, particularly in the popular Coral Bay area, 10 minutes’ drive from the town centre.
Golf – there are currently 3 pro 18 hole golf courses in Paphos within 20 minute drive with more at the planning stage. Tony Jacklin is currently helping design the new golf course at Secret Valley. Tony Jacklin is also boosting his increasingly impressive profile as a course designer with the announcement that he is to design a second golf complex in Cyprus.
Apartments in the area cost from around €100,000 Euros, while a villa overlooking the sea from €495,000. Prices are on an upward curve, and have been so for several years. Plans for a new marina development near Coral Bay look set to see them rise higher yet.
