New Sustainability Forum Enters the Marketplace

The first sustainable procurement forum to be created by regional partners has been launched.

The North West Sustainable Procurement Forum, set up by the NWDA working with the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership and other regional agencies, will identify priority areas for sustainable procurement activity in the region.

The forum is made up of procurement representatives from councils and key agencies from across the north west.

It will also be looking at the way in which councils co-ordinate their sustainable procurement activity to ensure it is carried out efficiently.

It has now commissioned two leading organisations - Action Sustainability and FSquared - to carry out a study of sustainable procurement in the region.  They will then develop a work programme for the forum.

The members of the forum are the:

  • North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership
  • Centre for Construction Innovation
  • East Lancashire Chambers of Commerce
  • Envirolink North West
  • Environment Agency
  • Enworks
  • Government Office North West
  • NHS North West Collaborative Procurement Hub and
  • North West Development Agency

It will be chaired by Dominic Lee, divisional director for the NHS North West Collaborative Procurement Hub with secretariat provided by the North West Development Agency.

Commented Dominic:

"The region's main agencies have a significant procurement spend.  It makes good sense for them to work collaboratively to ensure an efficient and co-ordinated approach to sustainable procurement."
